Completed January 20, 2026
The Pedestrian Controlled Crosswalk Safety Project aimed to enhance the pedestrian and road safety in our community. The project consisted of upgrading one existing pedestrian crosswalk located at Sperry Avenue and 9th Street and installing two new pedestrian crosswalks at Ward Avenue and Las Palmas Avenue/Mackilhaffy Drive, and Hartley Street and Somerset Way. The Intersection of Sperry Avenue and 9th Street was updated with a new High Intensity Activated Crosswalk (HAWK) Signal System, pedestrian ramps, sidewalk, and pavement striping/marking. The intersection of Ward Avenue and Las Palmas Avenue/Mackilhaffy Drive was updated by installing a crosswalk with Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) System on Sperry Avenue, painted crosswalks on Las Palmas Avenue and Mackilhaffy Drive, pedestrian ramps, sidewalks, and pavement striping/marking. The intersection of Hartley Street and Somerset Way was updated by installing a three-way stop, new crosswalk across Hartley Street, streetlight, pedestrian ramp, and pavement striping/marking.
